Tile and Flooring

Tile

  • tile countertops, backsplashes, floors, and tabletops
  • use of glazed and unglazed terracotta tiles
  • worn stone tiles
  • floors made of terracotta or stone pavers (or wide pine planks)
  • use of handcrafted custom tiles – particularly in kitchen and bathrooms
  • red tile roofs
  • tile infused with bright colors and intricate designs
  • hand-made tiles add a rustic element and visual appeal – “no two are made alike”

Flooring

  • terra cotta, usually honey-colored, most common flooring
  • add visual interest by arranging them in square, brick, or “lozenge” patterns
  • light wood or parquet is also acceptable – use rough, wide planks
  • color the wood flooring, while ensuring that the grain stays visible
  • stone and brick may be also be used
  • use Native American rugs throughout to brighten up rooms
